3G
- (or 3-G) is short for third-generation mobile telephone technology. The services associated with 3G provide the ability to transfer both voice data (a telephone call) and non-voice data (such as downloading information, exchanging email, and instant messaging).
3GPP
- (3rd Generation Partnership Project) a cooperation of standards organizations (ARIB, CWTS, ETSI, T1, TTA and TTC) throughout the world for the development of 3G systems, which provide high-speed data transmission over wireless cellphone systems. 3GPP is responsible for the technical specifications of the WCDMA air interface for GSM systems, and 3GPP2 covers the CDMA2000 air interfaces for CDMA systems.
